Recently, BLH crews working on a shutdown smelter were congratulated for identifying and rectify a safety issue that could have potentially electrified a large part of the smelter.
It was discovered that a power cable that provided back up power to the smelter was attached to the external side of a guard railing, in an area where a cable crane is frequently operated. BLH Employees identified the risk that the cables used by the crane were in danger of contacting the power cable, out of sight from the operator. This would cause wear on the cable, to a point that could cause a dangerous short, leading to electrification.
The safety issue was resolved by relocating the power cable. A site representative had this to say about the BLH Team: "Please pass on our sincere thanks and congratulations to your team - this was a fantastic pick up & resolve. Your team's safety culture is inspiring to all"
Another great example of the BLH motto: "Think Safe, Be Safe". |
